U Of T Agreements

The university has 23 collective agreements with 11 different unions; Thirteen contracts will be renewed in 2017. The University of Toronto has a wide range of active agreements with institutions around the world. Areas contained in these agreements include collective agreements that set the terms and conditions of employment of unionized workers, as well as the rights, privileges and obligations of the union, employer and workers. The Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902, Unit 5 (CUPE Local 3902, Unit 5) represents those who are employed as postdoctoral fellows at the University of Toronto and are covered by CUPE Local 3902, Unit 5. The United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, Local 46 (UA Local 46) represents plumbers, steam fitters and sprinkler sprinklers at U of T. CUPE Local 2484 and represents kindergarten assistants and assistants at the University of Toronto. The Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902, Unit 3 (CUPE Local 3902) represents workers who teach, demonstrate, teach or write down on contracts of less than one year. .

The Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902, Unit 1 (CUPE Local 3902) represents students at the University of Toronto, primarily PhD students who work as teaching assistants, laboratory assistants, markers, graders and trainers. The EMPLOYMENT Standards Act (ESA) contains minimum standards for most workers working in Ontario. It defines the rights and obligations of workers and employers on most jobs in Ontario. The University of Toronto and United Steelworkers 1998 reached an interim agreement on a collective renewal agreement on November 2. “We encourage all casual employees who are members of the CTE to participate in the information sessions and vote,” said Kelly Hannah-Moffat, Vice President of Personnel and Actions. “I want to thank the university and union bargaining teams for their commitment and hard work.” The University of Toronto Faculty Association (UTFA) provides teachers and librarians with employment representation, including salary, retirement, benefit negotiations and workplace complaints. Agreements and guidelines for faculties and librarians are hosted by the office of the vice-provost, faculty – academic life. The Ontario Public Service Employees Union, Local 578 (OPSEU Local 578) represents research officers and associates at the University of Toronto`s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 353, represents electricians, apprentices, administration technicians, fitters and machinists.

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union, Local 519 (OPSEU 519) represents police on the University of Toronto campus. Transparency and cooperation are fundamental to our institution. Details of the agreement will be presented to members at information sessions on November 9 on all three campuses.
